Fisheries Awareness Week 12 – 20 May 2012

This year Fisheries Awareness week runs from the 12th to the 20th of May and looks set to be a huge success with 70 events in 22 counties. There are events dedicated to sea angling, pike angling, trout angling and coarse angling and salmon angling as well as family fun days, school days and more. 14/05/12: Fisheries Awareness Week kicked off over the weekend and here are a few pictures for you to enjoy from some of the many events that have taken place so far.
08/05/12: Minister Fergus O Dowd, Minister of State at the Department of Communications, Energy and Natural Resources launched FAW today with the exciting announcement that the permit fee is waived for fishing on Inland Fisheries Irelands trout and coarse permitted fisheries during FAW. Minister O Dowd noted that ‘recreational fishing in Ireland is often a shared family or group activity, contributing to community cohesion and development. It also provides benefits through its outdoor, physical nature for individuals, and brings a shared responsibility of our fisheries resources.’ Click here to get your free permit.
Inland Fisheries Ireland protects, develops, manages and promotes Ireland’s inland fisheries and sea angling.
The Aims of Fisheries Awareness Week are:
- To encourage adults and children alike who may never have fished before to take up a new hobby.
- To work with angling clubs and organisations to promote all types of angling.
- To promote the role the fisheries service has in protecting and conserving our fisheries resource.
