IFI Fisheries awareness event to be held by Ballymote and District Angling Club

Game event

The Game event to be held by Ballymote and District Angling Club will take place on Lough na Leibe on Sunday 20^th May from 12.30pm until 3.30pm.

This event is open to novices and experienced anglers alike. Fishing on the lough for the day will be free, with demonstrations given on fly tying, casting and fly fishing techniques. A number of rods will be available on the day for those who don’t have access to one.

Directions to Lough na Leibe: Drive into Ballymote, At the Church of Ireland (opposite Ulsterbank) turn left and drive past the Coach House Hotel and continue for about 3 miles to a crossroads, turn right at the cross roads (there is a sign for Lough na Leibe at this point), drive 0.4miles then turn left at the first joining road, drive about 1.9miles along this road at which point a small parking area appears and the Lough is visible on below.

Most equipment will be provided on the day, so just wear suitable outdoor clothing bring a peaked/brimmed hat and sun/safety glasses for safety purposes (especially important for flyfishing). All you have to do is turn up and have some fun.

Coarse event

The coarse event to be held by Ballymote and District Angling Club will take place on Fin Lough on Saturday 19^th May from 11.00am until 2.30pm

The day will allow people to give coarse angling a go, while receiving demonstrations on tackle, rigs, baits and angling methods, as well as information on bio-security and invasive species.

Directions to Finlough: From the Toberbride Roundabout take the exit for the N17, Drive along the N17 through Ballinacarrow and continue for about 1.25 miles, at the second crossroads after Ballinacarrow, turn right off the N17, drive 2 miles until you reach the first crossroads and turn right and drive about 0.5 miles and Finlough will appear on the left side of the road.

Have a go flyfishing event with fish display on the River Boyne at Navan with a talk at the Ardboyne Hotel and refreshments followed by Fly casting demonstration and fishing event in conjunction with Navan & District Angling Club .

Date – Sunday 20th May at Time 10.00- 6.00pm

The day will star with a welcome address at the Ardboyne Hotel after which there will be three instructive talks.

• HOW TO BE SAFE WHILE FISHING;
• HOW TO CHOOSE AND MATCH YOUR FLY FISHING TACKLE – flies, leaders, fly lines, rods, and reels;
• THE RULES OF CASTING A FLY ROD,  Followed by Q&A

This should bring us all to lunch time where you will enjoy a finger food buffet and a chance to talk to other anglers and ask more questions of those who gave the presentations.

Once everyone has had their fill we will proceed to the river bank for some casting demonstrations and instruction.

• CASTING DEMONSTRATION WITH A SINGLE HANDED ROD TROUT FLY FISHING DEMONSTRATION ;
  A) WET FLY FISHING TECHNIQUES,
  B) DRY FLY FISHING TECHNIQUES,
  C) NYMPH FISHING ,INCLUDING CZECH NYMPHING
• SPEY CASTING DEMONSTRATION, A) WITH A TWO HANDED ROD, B) WITH A SINGLE HANDED TROUT ROD

Hopefully everyone attending will have picked up enough new knowledge to take to the bountiful waters of the Boyne and put into practice what you have just learned. You may even catch a trout  – all compliments of the  NAVAN ANGLERS . Some tackle will be available for those without rods but if you have fly fishing gear please bring it along so you can have a cast.
